Do your Research before Getting a Mortgage Print E-mail

For the vast majority of people, a mortgage will be the biggest financial deal they will make in their lives. Buying a house, finding the one you want to live in for an extended period of time, trying to figure if it will be the right size, if it will be worth the money in a few years if you need to sell for something bigger, and signing loan documents that may take up to forty years to pay off is a big thing! Do some research, talk to people that you know that already have mortgages. Hopefully you will find a realtor that is knowledgeable and can help answer any questions you may have. The terms of a mortgage can be confusing. Adjustable rates, fixed rates, balloon payments, closing costs, tax and insurance, and even second mortgage, may be some of the things you will have questions about. In some states you will need a lawyer to close the deal, in others it is done with a title company. Getting a mortgage should be something you think about, and talk about, not something you just jump in to.
